What's the ionic product of water, Kw?

Water dissociates slightly to form ionsH2O <==========> H+ + OH-
The equilibrium constant Kw = [H+] [OH-]

[H2O] is left out from the equation as its concentration is virtually constant. (due to high concentration compared to the concentration of ions).

At 25 degree C, [H+] = [OH-] = 1.0 x 10^-7

Hence, Kw = 1.0 x 10^-14
